(Orlando) November 5, 2009 – During the ongoing crisis at Fort Hood, Texas the American Red Cross urges families to utilize the Safe and Well website at www.redcross.org. This tool allows people to register their well being so family and friends can then log on and search for registered individuals to learn of their safety.
If someone has spoken to loved ones at Ft. Hood, they can also register them on Safe and Well. In order to complete the search you will need to know the phone number or the address of the individual on base. The site does not provide a specific location of those who have registered and all personal information is kept confidential.
People without access to a computer can call the Red Cross (1-800-REDCROSS) for help.
Since news of the crisis began more than 50 people have registered on the site. The American Red Cross does have personnel who work on post at Ft. Hood. The Army has not requested any Red Cross help at this point, but the Red Cross stands ready if needed.

Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to all the soldiers, families and civilian employees at Ft. Hood affected by this tragedy.
