(Lecanto) November 6, 2009 – Volunteers with the Florida’s Coast to Coast Chapter of the American Red Cross Lecanto office have responded to three single family fires in the past 24 hours. Disaster Action Team volunteers assisted a family of three, whose North Travis Drive home in Dunnellon was reported as destroyed, another family of three whose North Irving Park Avenue home in Hernando was reported as destroyed, and a family of two whose Kimball Court home in Spring Hill was reported as destroyed.
The three home fires occurred within a 24 hour period beginning with the North Travis Drive home at 2:23 a.m. on November 5. Hours later the second fire broke out on Irving Park Avenue. Finally, the Kimball Court home fire started at 12:30 a.m. on November 6. In each case, the American Red Cross provided the families with financial assistance to obtain food and clothing, and in two of the responses, temporary lodging was provided for the displaced families. All American Red Cross disaster assistance is provided free of charge, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the community.
As we enter the fall and winter seasons when the need for home heating escalates, the Red Cross urges everyone to take fire safety precautions. For fire prevention tips, please visit www.midfloridaredcross.org.
