How do I start the process of becoming a volunteer?

To become a volunteer, please call the Office of Volunteers at (407) 894-4141 to schedule an interview or fill out the online form. Please bring the following information to your interview in order to complete an application:

At the interview, you will be scheduled for a volunteer orientation session and you will also be asked to sign the American Red Cross Code of Conduct. A criminal background check may be required for select volunteer positions.

What is the American Red Cross Code of Conduct?

The Code of Conduct is the standard policies and principles by which all American Red Cross volunteers and employees are required to abide. The Code of Conduct is used in an effort to maintain the high standard of conduct expected and deserved by the American public and to enable the organization to continue to offer services required by those in need.

What is the time commitment required to volunteer?

Time commitments vary according to the area in which you choose to volunteer. Although daytime availability is especially desirable, evening and weekend opportunities are available.

How old do I have to be to volunteer?

Adult volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Volunteers who are 14-18 years old are welcome to join the American Red Cross of Central Florida Teen Corps or assist with office duties. Are there internship opportunities available?

There are many internship opportunities available within the different support areas, particularly in administrative support. For more information, please contact Human Resources Program Coordinator at (407) 894-4141 or fill out the online application form for the job you would like to apply for.

How do I become a disaster volunteer overseas?

The American Red Cross deploys disaster volunteers - international relief workers - to provide technical assistance to the Red Cross society impacted by the disaster. International relief workers must have technical skills, Red Cross knowledge and disaster relief experience that most often begins by volunteering at a American Red Cross of Central Florida.

Can I volunteer for disaster relief operations outside of the Central Florida area in the United States?

Yes, although you must have experience with disaster response as a local Red Cross volunteer. To acquire that experience, you must register, train and serve with your American Red Cross of Central Florida. If you live within the Central Florida area, you can begin this process by calling the Office of Volunteers at (407) 894-4141 to schedule an interview. If you live outside of the Central Florida area, you can find and contact your local chapter at http://www.redcross.org/where/where.html.

Can I volunteer for American Red Cross of Central Florida while I am visiting Florida on time-off or vacation?

Yes! Red Cross volunteer opportunities are ongoing and require training and orientation.
