Youth Volunteer Positions
Membership Requirements
The program is open to youth between the ages of 11 and 18 years old who live in Orange, Osceola, or Seminole County. There are Teen Corps activities every Saturday (except for major holidays). We encourage youth members to participate in two (2) activities per month.
Peer Facilitators
Youth members are trained to serve as instructors or instructor aides in Red Cross Courses such as:
- Basic Aid Training (B.A.T.)
B.A.T. is designed for children who are 8 to 10 years old. It teaches basic skills and knowledge necessary for children to identify and prevent harmful situations to be able to treat common injuries and to respond appropriately in emergency situations.
Teen Corps members are trained to facilitate this course which includes activities and games that make safety learning fun. Topics include, how to dial 9-1-1 and what information to provide, as well as basic first aid and rescue breathing skills.
- Elementary Leadership Development Conference (ELDC)
Leadership Development Conferences provide fourth and fifth grade students with an introduction to basic leadership skills.
Teen Corps members are trained to facilitate conference curriculums in a fast paced, fun format with topics that include Healthy Habits, Conflict Resolution, and Personal Safety.
- Committees
Project Planning/Activity Team Members - Successful projects require careful planning and attention to detail. Teen Corps members choose and facilitate their activities with guidance from adult mentors.
- Public Relations
Members write and edit their own weekly newsletter the "Corps Communique", which contains upcoming activities, Red Cross history, and much more. Members are also responsible for taking photos, storing memorabilia, and designing flyers and public displays.
